the inability to remember the last episode watched in a series (or the point in the episode where watching was interrupted in an episode), difficulty in getting to a particular series, etc. Several years ago, I dropped an NPR TV membership because of similar unfriendliness in its video program interface, e.g. those that do often point to an obscure and badly named command tab that might address the problem. Only a very few of these reviews elicit comments from the developers and almost none of the responses address usability issues. They complain of the app turning on randomly, draining the battery when not in use, and having a difficult and obscure interface. Many of the reviews report the inability to listen to a whole program. I listen to two local NPR stations, BPR Classic and SCETV Classic plus Minnesota Classical and occasional others. When I listen to the radio, that is what I want to do. In looking at reviews, where 1 star is almost as frequent as 5 star, I conclude that this is not for me. I have been looking for an internet radio app and, since most of my listening is NPR, thought that NPR One might do. I think we need to scale this in order for this to be something that you can see a return on.”Ĭlarification: This post has been revised to clarify that NPR hopes to be testing versions of the app by May. I think the lines are fairly clearly drawn there. “So the money isn’t coming in.”īut Hjelm said he does think that “NPR One has the right template for how we divide local and national inventory. ![]() The pilot is in the early stages, but “so far what we’ve found is that the scale isn’t there,” he said. NPR is piloting local inventory on NPR One with a small group of stations, according to Tom Hjelm, NPR’s chief digital officer. “We’ve got to figure out either revenue-sharing or something so that we’re finding a way that, one, we’re being efficient in how we’re doing it, and two, all boats are rising,” Eby said. Louis Public Radio, pointed out that NPR and stations are “competing in the local marketplace” for inventory. Some station leaders at the session raised concerns about local sponsorship on digital platforms. NPR hopes to start testing versions of the app by May. The NPR app doesn’t include station news stories. NPR One picks a user’s station based on their location, while users of the NPR app choose a station through a multi-step process. Other possible features could include “pre-localization,” with the station-branded content and livestream already loaded on the app based on the user’s location. “But they want that whether it’s listening or reading.” “ When you talk to any user of the NPR digital properties, they will tell you that they want that national-local blend, which is what you get in an NPR One experience,” Lenahan said. Stations now notify NPR when they want their podcasts to be featured on NPR One. The app could include station podcasts and livestreams, and NPR is looking into creating “enhanced editorial tools” that could give stations more control over the app’s content, Lenahan said. ![]() “We can do better than this,” Lenahan said. Audience has flattened for both the NPR app, which has about 2 million users, and NPR One, which has about 500,000. Lenahan said NPR also sees room to boost use of the apps. We were forcing our organizational problems on our users.” “We have a newsroom, we have a programming team, and we have two apps kind of created for the way we are organizing. “We realized that we basically had created arbitrary lines in our apps based upon how NPR was structured,” Lenahan said. “Why should I pick one versus the other?” “You go to the app store and you look for NPR, and you’re not sure, should I pick the NPR app or should I pick NPR One?” said Kerry Lenahan, NPR’s VP of product, during a conference session. Discussing their plans Thursday with station leaders at the Public Radio Super-Regional conference, NPR digital leaders said they’re aiming to simplify the experience for users searching for their apps. NPR now offers two apps: the audio-focused NPR One, which merges national and local newscasts, news segments and podcasts into a personalized stream and the eponymous NPR app, which presents written news stories along with a live station stream and on-demand audio.Įlements of both apps will be merged into one using the NPR One technology that combines local and national content. NEW ORLEANS - NPR will focus on promoting a single app for its content beginning next year with a new app powered by NPR One’s technology.

![]() I have (through some very thorough research) figured out a way to basically download the playable game and extract it so you can actually edit it (Quest, by default, makes it so you can’t edit a game file unless you have the original, editable file- unless you open it in a text editor and delete a bunch of lines, then replace them with a few different lines, but I digress) so I’ve entertained the idea of going back into, say, Life of Kriss: Day One, or Fantastic Dungeon Blah Blah Blah, but that’s on the back-burner until I finish Fortune’s Feast. whatever- Namely, Quest (for obvious reasons) doesn’t let you “import” saved games into newer versions, so it was a pain to redo everything, which lead to me implementing items that let you skip parts, which lead to the game breaking in horrible ways, which lead to MORE complaints, which lead to me just… Kinda wrapping the game up, presenting it as it was, then not touching it again. Still plugging away at Fortune’s Feast- I’m proud of where it’s at, but I got a lot of criticism over how I handled Fantastic Dungeon Extender etc. "Company Profile." But if it were a simple 18x24 gable roof, the framing would probably have: So I can't give specific advice on this situation. What I will say is that if done today, the 2x4 rafters could only span about 6' to 8' and the purlins and struts would be minimum 2x4.Īs I said before the framing is confusing, it looks like there's no end support for hip rafters or opposing king rafters, roof planes changing slope without ridge beams, etc. Be prepared to be hammered by others on the size and spacing of the 2x10s.Ĭlick to expand. That era of attic I've come across 1x's, 2x's, and even T&G flooring used for bracing - hey, whatever's laying around! So if you are able to deduce and want to replace knotty/add back in what was removed at some point, by using the same dimensional lumber, that's your call. You would need new calculations and they would probably come up short, especially considering dead load of storage. Besides, with all the competing roof slopes, multiple hip rafters tying in at various places of a ridge board, errant struts, etc I can not figure this roof out and honestly it's a hodge podge of framing.Įven with upsizing to 2x10 ceiling joists, I wouldn't want to change the structure to a compression design by relying on these 2x10s to support the roof. So think of this framing as sort of a truss. ![]() Although it seems a bit light on how many struts there are, they had the midpoint rafter purlin and there probably was an "L" purlin (binder) across the top of the 2x4 ceiling joists that the king post(s) tied to (as it was helping hold them up). My thought is with the 2x4 rafters, I would want to keep the struts as designed for tension (a la king post). More pictures, aha! Roof purlins, not shimming, and plywood sheathing! I better get thicker reading glasses or increase the brightness of my screen! I've taken some more photos of the system that's in place and would welcome any more thoughts or questions. When I place any pressure on the 1圆 and 1x8 struts that join the 2x4 to the ridge beam and rafters they don't seem to be supporting much if any load and are not under tension (possibly because I removed the stuff that had been resting on the 2x4 ceiling joists). The question is can I replace them/re-route them to the new 'stronger' 2x10 joists that I put in? So I think that they are original to the framing of the original roof. It was build in 1955 with redwood lumber - and these struts seem of the same age and are also present in other houses (same model/same subdivision). The roof still seems solid - no visible sag from the exterior or even looking at the interior framing. They should never have had anything up there at all on a 2x4 spanning 18'! The previous owners had placed some plywood across the 'joists' and used them for storage - so all three that had storage on them (and supports to the roof) had similar sag to them. Three of the 4 2x4 ceiling joists have some sort of rafter strut/support on them. ![]() They are toe nailed into the top plate (not to a rafter). ![]() In other words, in a drag-and-drop operation, a user triggers drag and drop events. We’re working with data, specifically, with the setData() method on the dataTransfer object. When we drag an element and look for a place to drop it on the screen, what is it that we are actually doing? Let’s look at a drag-and-drop operation from a different angle. Let’s define a function that will run on the source element. Hooking into drag and drop events with JS But other than that, right now it doesn’t do much else. If we try click-dragging the source element at this point, it will work - since we’ve made it draggable. To make an element into a source element, we need to set its draggable property to true, like this: 1 Making an element draggable (converting a plain HTML element to a source element) ![]() drop (from another target) and dragend (from source element)Īlthough the above-listed events are fired, nothing “perceptable as a real interaction” happens for the user dragging the source element onto the target element - unless we use the Drag and drop API’s event handlers.ĭue to such a straightforward naming convention, it’s easy to connect the event handlers with their respective events on this API.dragenter (emitted from the target element). The drag event is triggered all the time, as long as the user is moving the element - similar to mousemove dragstart (emitted from the source element), immediately followed by drag (from the source element). We can “translate” the above scenario into the sequence of events triggered: The source element is over the target element and the user releases the left mouse button. The source element enters the coordinates of a third (target) element. The source element leaves the area of the “another” element. The source element is dragged over that “another” element. The dragged (source) element enters the coordinates of another element. The user clicks the element, holds the click, and starts moving the element on the page.Let’s go through a possible drag and drop sequence of events: The second group of user-triggered events, i.e “the target events”, are dragenter, dragover, dragleave, and drop. The first group of user-tiggered events, i.e “the source events”, are dragstart, drag, and dragend. the event of dropping onto a target element. This API is all about two groups of user-triggered events: In this section, we’ll list some basic examples of the Drag and Drop API, as well as some basic terminology. Today, in many web apps, the following functionality is almost the expected behavior: a user is “spoiled” to intuitively know that if they click and drag an element, then drop it onto another element, it will probably work (if it makes sense to perform such an action).Ī simple, useful example, is building a quiz interface, where we would need to order separate words onto a section of the screen, and we would need to put those words in order - so as to get a passing score. Finally, in the if statement we can introduce our app logic and reset the variable to false. In this post we’ll explore the Drag and Drop API in modern browsers until we get comfortable using this functionality. Sometimes when running on mobile the mouse event fired, which breaks our logic, to prevent that on touchend event we add preventDefault. We also have an additional check to see if we are using the left button in the mouse event. The final step is where we check when we stop holding the mouse button or touching the screen. If that is the case we set isSwipe to true. On the second step we track if there is a movement before we stop holding the mouse button or not touching the screen. On this step we are setting isSwipe to false, because there is no movement. In both cases we have a boolean variable or in react a state variable called isSwipe.įirst step, is when we touch the screen or press and hold the mouse button. Below are snippets of code in React and in pure Javascript. There is no onDrag or onSwipe events so we need to catch them through logic. However, sometimes is difficult to distinguish dragging from clicking on a desktop or swiping from tapping on a mobile. Gestures like swipe and drag events are a great way to introduce new functionalities into your app. ![]() I don’t need to edit those Mellel files in DTpro and think that’s not possible without building 80% of Mellel into DT but if I could view those files and open them with a click in Mellel, this would be great. I totaly agree, that the current format shouldn’t be supportet but I think with MeXML this could be done. I don't use DEVONthink Pro, I really don't "search" my documents yet (we'll see if this changes when I have to start writing lengthy stuff), plus I don't use editorial notes yet.I also want myself add to the list of Mellel users that likes to see some more support in DTpro. Once I go from student to professor, I can PDF my stuff for students, or give them Accordance modules of my notes (incentive to get Accordance). I wish I could just PDF all my Mellel stuff, but my professors like to make comments using Word so.I'm stuck with exporting to Word. Usually just adjust a page number or indent a Bib line. The formatting cleanup is very minor I have to do now. If I have to cleanup formatting anyway, I guess I'm OK with sticking with Mellel. I had to do some basic AppleScripting and Macros in Word for a Keyboarding class, but I'm not a big fan of having to spend time building them. Edited Novemby James I really don't get into programming and Macros, so I'm probably better off with Mellel. Likewise, I particularly enjoy the extant Dictionary/Thesaurus in Nisus Writer. Conversely, Nisus Writer easily allows me to add an editorial comment. Another pesky think I am observing today is Mellel's inability to allow me to make editorial notes. Moreover, with Mellel having its own proprietary format, its documents are not compatible with DEVONthink pro (my research database organizer of choice). I don't particularly care for the search features of Mellel. While I could have used Word and worried about Mellel later when it came time for RTL, Mellel has much better performance than Word, and I wanted to get a grip on Mellel and become comfortable with it on a few smaller papers first instead of jumping into it when it came time for something big. LRU is primarily a Windows shop, so most professors use Word for their papers. I recently moved back to Hot Springs, Arkansas (my hometown), but LRU is allowing me to continue solely through online studies which has been great. I'm a couple semesters away at finishing my bachelor's program, then going in for Master's and eventually my Doctorate. I'm currently studying at Luther Rice University in Lithonia, GA. I'm also going to spring for Accordance 10 soon and buy into one of the new base collections to prepare me for the hardcore Biblical Language studies when they come up. I haven't gotten into RTL text yet, but I know it's coming and wanted to start using Mellel ahead of time so I'd feel more at home with it when the time came. Far superior to Word when I need to chunk away at large papers. Mellel has been excellent in terms of performance and stability. Should I give Nisus Writer Pro a look, and would it streamline my workflow better than Mellel, or since I've finally conquered Mellel enough to write my papers with, just stick with it? I'd love to hear people's evaluations on the programs. I've also seen on here where some are trying Nisus Writer Pro and really seem to like it as well. So usually when I'm done, I do have to export to Word, then open it inside Word 2011 and cleanup the formatting slightly before sending it on. It does save everything in a proprietary format. Usually before figuring out anything high end, I've had to consult the manual, or turn to a forum page (some of you on here REALLY helped me out recently when I needed it and it was MUCH appreciated!).Ģ. I've finally mastered enough of it where I can type my seminary papers easily (I've created a few "template" files). Performance has been great and I love the new iCloud integration.ġ. So far things have been OK with Mellel and my seminary papers. I'm doing this to prepare for when it's time for Biblical Language (such as Hebrew) work, as well as the performance of Mellel is definitely better than Word. I'm currently using Mellel for my academic papers for seminary. While I'm at the comparisons, I have another question. ![]() With TunesGo, you can easily manage all Android apps in one place.
